Melting makeup - Tips for making it through the summer

Summer is full of wonderful things — but melting makeup, smeared eyebrows, rubbed eyeliner, and super-sticky lipstick are not among them. I’m giving you my best tips for keeping makeup looking fresh and pretty — even when the weather is working against you!

All of the products below are toxin free, vegan, PETA approved, botanically-based, pH correct, hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested and formulated without petroleum based ingredients, parabens, animal products or by-products.

1. Start with moisturizer

A fresh start to your daily regimen. Formulated with exfoliants from lingonberry and apricot to gently buff away dull surface skin cells, makeup and excess oil, leaving skin feeling fresh and looking brighter. My favorite is the RE9 Advanced Prepwork Cleansing Polish. Shop here

2. Invest in a powerhouse makeup primer

You won't regret the few seconds it takes to apply a primer, which goes on after moisturizer but before face makeup. Primers are definitely the way to go in summer. They don't feel at all like a heavy, additional layer, and they really help hold makeup in place. Try Arbonnes Makeup Primer to soften wrinkles and blur imperfections — all while keeping your makeup on your face! Shop here

3. Layer on Pollution Defense CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen

Besides hydrating your skin, you also want to make sure it's properly protected from the sun — and that means wearing sunscreen or cc cream every single day, even under your makeup. (Applying makeup over sunburned skin is not fun.) 13-in-1 CC Cream contains mineral SPF and creates a breathable "second skin" to protect you from everyday pollution as small as PM 2.5 microns, which lingers in the air and can stick to the skin’s surface. Lightweight formula camouflages skin imperfections with medium coverage for a radiant finish. Contains Phytinol™ and argan oil to support the appearance of skin tone and smoothness. Shop here

4. Glow up with some bronzer + highlight

Powder bronzers are the easiest to apply. Look for one with varying shades like this Starlight Glow Palette — they'll blend together for the most authentic-looking results. You can also sweep a little bronzer onto your neck and earlobes to blend, especially if you have short hair or are wearing a ponytail.

Your radiance is out of this world. Capture a breathtaking, luminous glow with multi-use powders that can be used to highlight, blush, bronze, and contour. | 4 shades x 0.22 oz.

5. Wear less makeup

If you want to prevent your makeup from creasing and caking, say it with us: Less is more. If you can, just use a tinted moisturizer and a concealer where you need it. Makeup likes to move around when it's hot, so the best way to avoid that is to wear less of it!

6. Frame your face

We all know the brows is what makes the face! (Especially during these mask days!) Eyebrows can make or break your overall look. If they are too thin, they can dramatically change the dynamics of your face, too thick and they can drown your eyes in hair. Microbladed eyebrows is the #1 option for unwanted smudged makeup across your forehead. There are so many options today — Microblading, micro shading, ombre brows, powder brows, combination…. Your artist will measure out your brows according to your bone structure and create a custom matching pigment that flatters your face best! Check out this transformation and more online at

7. Let your eyes twinkle

For longer-lasting shadow, avoid using eye cream on your lids (it can break down makeup), and smooth on an eye primer instead. It will minimize creasing and create a base for the shadow to cling to so it lasts longer. For the ultimate in all-day wearability, layer a powder over a cream. My go to is always a light neutral shimmer. And... it just has to be mentioned... permanent eyeliner is a MUST when it comes to not wanting smeared raccoon eyes!! Shop here

8. Play with fun, vibrant colors

Just as you're probably more likely to wear a vivid top or carry a bright bag this season, now's the perfect time to play up the colors in your makeup palette. Besides looking summery, livelier colors brighten the face and bring a youthful glow to skin. If you tend to stick with neutrals, experiment with just one area of your face. A punchy blush on the apples of the cheeks is a good place to start — you can follow our blush guide to find your perfect shade. Shop here

9. Go for sheer lip shades

If you plan ahead, think about scheduling a lip shade treatment too. It isn’t your old school tattooed lip liner… Permanent makeup has advanced too much over the years! Lip shading is a service where you can add a soft shear shade to your lips that looks like silk — no more bleeding or smudged lips in this heat! Hello soft, subtle, natural looking lips! If you naturally have color to your lips still, opt for a lip balm and stay away from sticky lipsticks!

10. Always finish with a setting spray

The final step in getting your makeup to last all day and night is to spritz on a setting spray to seal in your look. I recommend Let It Set Refreshing Finishing Spray from Arbonne. I personally noticed my makeup lasting longer throughout the day. Shop here

I hope these favorites helped and are some sort of guide to get you out in the heat and enjoying the outdoors while feeling confident. Always remember to feel free to send me a message with any of your makeup questions.
